2006
This year we had 18 members of the club do Ironman. They
all finished. Many were first timers. Well done to all those
competed and for those who came up and supported. Check out
the results below.
The Presentation night is coming up on the 27th of May, and
will be held at the Studley Park Boat House. It promises to
be a great night. For more information click on the link below.
The
Victorian Olympic Distance Championships
put on by IMG will be held on the 29/2/04. Many of the sprint
distance Nunawading Triathlete members will be competing.
Some of the Iron Man competitors might also find it a nice
build up for the Iron Man race in April. A few from the club
including Rohan Ware, Sarah Pollett, and Mack Clarkson are
competing in the Surf Coast International at
Torquay on March the 14th which is a 2km swim, 76km ride and
15km run so this will also be a nice build up race for them.
If you are interested in competing at the Surf Coast International
or just to catch up down there, log on to the Chat room. We
will be going down Friday night and coming back late Sunday.
IMG
Triathlon Series Race 5 is coming up on the 21/3/04
and this promises to be an absolute corker of an event. It
is the last IMG sprint distance on the calendar and it's back
to the super-quick format of 500m swim/ 20km ride/ 5 km run.
Some of the members were getting close to breaking the hour
last year so they will be fired up for the event. We also
have a handicap system which will add to the intrigue of the
race with Rohan Ware going off scratch, Lukey Smith off 2.15min
and the rest of the members falling after there and up to
20 odd minutes. It should be mind boggling to see who can
pull it out on the day and be crowned the race 5 champion.
To get a handicap you must be a member so sign up now for
the biggest race Nuna tri club has ever been associated in!!
Remember,
gambling effects everyone. - a message from the state government.
Then
it's the big one -The Foster Iron
Man Australia. Held on the 4th day on the fourth
month in the year 2004. Speaking to Dean Jackson recently
he is very pleased with the way the contingent from Nunawading
are shaping up and they all should be more than ready to launch
an assault on the streets of Tuncurry. Many NTC members will
be making the trip to support those competing. From what I
have heard the next best thing to competing is getting up
there and supporting. The atmosphere is meant to be electric
and a real buzz for first timers. Speaking of first timmers
Dean McGrath, wo, wo, what is he good for" will be competing
after a cracking time in the Canberra 1/2 iron man qualifier.
I'm sure he will perform strongly in Foster. Another member
sure to do well is John "Scary" Carey who just keeps
getting faster every year and is no doubt keen for another
big one. Good luck to the fox, the rabbit, Old Man on a back
porch, F.K.A.M.P (formerly known as Mr Plodd), The captain
and any one I have missed which I'm sure I have and apologies
for that. From all reports we could have P.B's from all of
them, assuming the weather plays its part.
Last night saw the culmination
of what has been a fantastic season for the mighty Nunawading
Triathlon Club with our annual presentation evening, attended
by eighty devotees of the club. The highlight of the night
held at Nero's Restaurant was the presentation of a 50th birthday
gift to stallwart of the club, Lee Bonardi. Lee received a
beautiful steel guitar courtesy of club members who all chipped
in for this legend of the club. Guests were also stunned by
the appearance of special guest for the night, Bob Downe (aka
the pres himself Steve Vaughan!) Bob was present to award
the Club Champion Awards, and put the frighteners up many
a male competitor.
Sponsors looked after the club
well with over $2,000.00 worth of prizes awarded not only
to winners of performance awards, but also to four lucky guests
in our Door Prize Award. Particularly chuffed was Andrea Drobnik
(GIT member this year) who walked away with one of the two
Polar Heart Moniters awarded on the night.

Website Updates
There have been a few updates to the website
over the last few days. Our illustrious President has submitted
a wrap of the season. Important reading for all club members.
The Photos page sees a number of additional photos, along
with a cataloged system of retrieving the photos you want
without having to wade through hundreds of old photos, and
our Chatroom has some important news about up coming events
and training.
As we swing into a new pre-season, building
up to the next rapidly approaching Triathlon and Duathlon
season, dig deep into the other half of your brains and be
creative and show the softer side to your competitive side.
Thats right!! I want articles from you all out there. How
about some of you students, you know, the ones with all the
spare time on their hands to do so much training, how about
distracting yourselves from your homework for just a few minutes
to give us your interperetation of the season gone, what were
your highlights, what were the lowlights, and where did triathlon
take you in 2002/03. Get inspired and let us know your deepest
darkest secrets about how you managed to go faster than most
of the old buggers around the club!! I want to hear about
you representing the state, representing the club, and representing
your country. And if I dont hear from you, I will personally
hound each and every one of you until I have a story from
each of you!!
Basic details: Italian Fondriest aluminium
compact (sloping) frame, chrome forks, full Campag 9 speed
Daytona groupset (now called Centaur after a trade-mark wrangle
with the yanks) with integrated Campag flight deck computer.
Selle Italia seat, FIR front rim and replaced Mavic Open Pro
rear rim. Total cost (without replacement rim) was $3,000
and I'm looking for $1,800 (negotiable).
