Congratulations
to all members on a fantastic season!!!!
Now
it’s time to relax for a little while and get all of that
energy restored. It will be great to catch up with everyone for
a drink at the end of season function. It’s going to be a
great night with lots of awards to be handed out. We will also have
heaps of other giveaways. Its always a great night.
I
can’t believe it’s already come to an end. The year
has just flown by. Then again it does seem like a long time ago
that we did the World Masters way back in October.
Since
then I have seen some huge changes to the Nuna Tri Club, all of
which have been extremely positive. We found ourselves racing in
new colors which have helped us to become one of the most recognisable
triathlon clubs in Victoria. It’s great to see so many of
our members getting around in their t-shirts at the races. It only
helps to promote the club as well as making it easier to find each
other.
We
were also lucky enough to get use of the Polar tent from Top Gear
Cycles for the season. It was great to have somewhere to meet before
and after the race to compare stories. It was also great to have
somewhere to leave our gear while racing, rather than in the bag
compound. Thank you to everyone who has offered their hands on Saturdays
to help me get the tent and banner up. I think we finally have it
down to a fine art.
We
now have a number of big name sponsors thanks to a lot of hard work
from JT. I should also thank our sponsors for everything they have
contributed towards the club. I’m sure everyone has been able
to get some great benefits from them. We look forward to having
a great relationship with them in the coming years.
We
had another successful GIT program with a lot of interest for future
ones. It was terrific to have so many keen athletes continue on
and we look forward seeing you all fulfill your dreams – whether
it be your first Supersprint race, Olympic distance, Half Ironman,
Ironman or marathon. I’m still fulfilling my dreams or at
least working towards them and I look forward to being able to help
each of you achieve them.
Of
course we’ve also got the fantastic new web site fully operational
now. The chat line has been a huge success with members being able
to let each other know what’s going on, who’s doing
what and so on. Please respond to the chat line as it really helps
us to learn what the club members needs are. JT is continually updating
with new information so please make the most of it.
Nuna
Tri Club has had its most successful race season since I joined
the club in 1999 – 2000. We came 2nd in The Gatorade Club
Championship and received a great plaque and $1000. It was a great
effort on every ones behalf to be able to get the numbers required
to stay in the race. We had to have at least 10 males and 5 females
at each race. Unfortunately, we ended up missing out on first place
by only 2 hours. To let you know how close that is – it works
out to about one and a half minutes per person per race.
We
have also had some fantastic individual results. Six of our members
received awards for point score in the Gatorade Series. Congratulations
to Rod Clarke – 1st 55-59, Celine Hepworth - 3rd Elite Female,
Dimity Gannon – 2nd 15-19, Eleisha Lilley – 3rd 15-19,
Rohan Ware – 2nd 20-24 and Dominic McGrath – 2nd 30-34.
We can also look forward to seeing at least two of our members competing
in December in The Worlds at New Zealand. The team is yet to be
announced. We will keep our fingers and toes crossed. Good luck
guys!!!!!
Club
members have raced all over the country and competed strongly in
all types of racing. There are too many results to go into but whether
you did your first sprint race or your 9th Forster Ironman, we have
been hugely proud of everything you have achieved and look forward
to another strong season by the club next year.
“
Nunawading Triathlon Club – the greatest triathlon club in
Victoria”, quote by Dave Hansen of Supersprint.
We
now have 80 members which is the most the club has had for over
6 years. I think we now have just as many female members as males.
And our juniors are always increasing. Lets look at trying to hit
the magical 100 mark for 2003 – 2004. Introduce your friends
and family to the club, and make them a part of our success.
Thank
you so much to the fantastic work our coaches Rhonda and Sarah have
done this year. You should accept a lot of the credit for the results
achieved this season. I look forward to next year’s training
already. “Steve – stretch back in the Swim”, “Steve
– relax your shoulders when you run”! Also, thank you
to Mark Beovich for all his work with his coaching and also to Danny
Whetherly and all those involved with the GIT program.
Thank
you so much for all the hard work that the committee has put in
this year. It was a great team effort.
I
hope everyone had a great summer of racing and I am excited about
2003-2004. See you all at the end of season dinner.
Cheers,
Steve
